(District) Edison's Haunted College brings back memories

There’s always something exciting about starting a new job. I don’t know if it’s just the new people in new places or simply the excitement of starting a new adventure.
Either way, it doesn’t take long to know if you made the right decision. Suddenly the new job turns into a career path, and you’ve got the next chapter in your autobiography.
While I’ve been in Southwest Florida for about a year, I’m less than two weeks into my next chapter. That’s how long I’ve been serving as the student life specialist at Edison State College Charlotte Campus in Punta Gorda. My co-workers are great, the campus is beautiful and working with students is both exciting and rewarding. But it wasn’t until I started planning the upcoming Haunted College festivities that everything clicked.
I couldn’t help but remember being a kid in upstate New York and all the fun that comes with Halloween. Don’t get me wrong, growing up in Gouverneur wasn’t exactly action-packed. But I remember venturing over to Syracuse with the family for a haunted house similar to Edison’s Haunted College.
While most of the details are lost somewhere within the depths of my memory, I still recall the piñatas, scary monsters and gobs of candy. I also remember dressing up as a Power Ranger, Shaggy from Scooby Doo, and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.
Full disclosure: The only way my mom could get me to go to my first day of kindergarten was in my Ninja Turtle costume. The memory still brings a laugh every time.
That’s why I can’t wait for Edison’s Haunted College on Oct. 30. From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., one priceless memory after another will be created.
The festivities will include pin the wart on the witch, musical chairs, spooky origami, free airbrush tattoos compliments of Amazing Adventures, and much more.
So come and enjoy the festivities, along with gobs of free candy.
